AQUABOX

Technical Information

The AQUABOX comprises three simple components, a rigid re-inforced 75 litre plastic container, a re-useable carbon activated filter and dispensing tap. The container is filled with whatever water can be found locally and is initially strained manually through a muslin to remove solid detritus. A single 10 gram purification tablet (effervescent chlorine release type) is then added. After 2 hours, potable water may be drawn through the filter and tap.

image of filter kitMany of the outbreaks of disease and infection which commonly follow disasters are as a direct result of drinking polluted water and the bacilli contained therein. These can rapidly cause epidemics such as Typhoid and Cholera but can be simply and easily rendered harmless when correctly treated in the AQUABOX.

In many regions of the world, particularly in the absence of deep-well installations, the AQUA30 version is frequently used on a long term basis. This can combat endemic diseases such as Bilharzia.

Though simple and 'user friendly' the AQUABOX, is normally only released 'into the field' under the supervision of experienced agencies. It is always accompanied by a 'language free pictogram' manual.

Occasionally a situation arises where the provision of a bore-hole will eliminate the need for continual use of AQUABOXES. In such cases limited funding may be given by Aquabox to assist in this provision.

The standard AQUABOX comprises a rigid plastic container and has a single filter and enough purification tablets to provide 1100 litres of clean drinking water. It is designed for Rotary Clubs and others such as individuals, schools, churches, scouts, guides and other community groups to fill with added welfare aid items selected from a published list (see filling an Aquabox).

Foodstuffs, drugs and medicines should not be included. Survival bags are added before it is despatched to an aid agency for use in a disaster area.

The cost includes the cost of delivery to you and its return when filled, via your local Post Office to the AQUABOX Central Store at Wirksworth to await call-off by aid agencies.

Every AQUABOX is uniquely numbered enabling any provider, on a 'trackback' basis, to know the ultimate destination of their box.

The insertion of a personal note by senders inviting a personal response is encouraged. On rare occasions a "feed-back" reply may be received. Please let us know if this happens.
