The AQUABOX Solution

An early AQUABOX in action

The standard AQUABOX has two functions:

It is filled with a selection of warm clothing, useful hardware and hygiene items. The actual contents depend on the individual or organisation that has donated and filled the box but may include warm clothing, kitchen utensils, toiletries, small hand tools and other general hardware. A suggested list of items to be included is set out in our brochure (see filling an AQUABOX).

It also contains an AquaFilter Family (based on well proven micropore technology) that will provide sufficient drinking and general washing water for a family of six for well over a year by providing over 18,000 litres of potable water.

The AQUABOX system has been exhaustively tested by an independent body proving it to be exceptionally effective in providing clean water and meeting all WHO standards.

The AQUABOX GOLD is a purely sponsored box that is filled by Aquabox with welfare items and an AquaFilter Family filter unit.

AQUABOX Community encompasses an AquaFilter Community that is based on the use the same well proven micropore technology of the AquaFilter Family. It is shipped in the same robust ridged plastic container as those used for the Standard Aquaboxes. Each box has a capacity of roughly 75 litres and this forms the basis of the AquaFilter Community unit.

Every AquaFilter Community is capable of generating up to 500,000 litres of drinking water from the local contaminated water sources. This is enough basic drinking water for 100 families of 6 (600 people) for well over a year and half; over 500 tonnes of drinking water.

How does the scheme work ?

A donation of £50 secures a standard AQUABOX, complete with water treatment kit which will be sent to you by Parcel Force. Additional filter sets can be ordered for a standard AQUABOX at a cost of £10 each.

The box should then be filled with the welfare items selected from the recommended list. These need not be new - clean second-hand goods are perfectly acceptable. Once filled, the box is returned to our store. We pay the cost of return via Parcel Force using their 48 hour return service and include a "Return Instruction Sheet" with each box. Filled boxes are collected from your address by ParcelForce.

The box will be logged in and held in store until a suitable emergency arises. We have developed excellent contacts with aid-agencies, who are responsible for transportation to the point of use and distribution to users. We rely absolutely on their judgement and expertise in selecting suitable applications.

As an alternative, you may prefer to donate £32 to sponsor an AQUABOX to be filled by someone else. Subject to availability, these "sponsored" AQUABOXES can be made available to organisations or individuals who wish to fill them with aid items but who may be unable to fund the cost of provision. However, you will be asked to donate £18 to cover the cost of transportation.

For a donation of £80, AQUABOX GOLD is prepared by us with new welfare items. By centrally purchasing the goods on a wholesale basis, we are able to offer a very financially attractive alternative to Standard Aquaboxes since we can allocate the cost of transporting boxes for filling towards the cost of purchasing of the aid items.

AQUABOX Community incorporates an AquaFilter Community. Every AquaFilter Community is capable of generating up to 500,000 litres of drinking water from the local contaminated water sources. These are not filled with other items and are sponsored for a donation of £250.
